Ayinla Omowura

Biography

Ayinla Omowura was a Nigerian Apala music legend born in Abeokuta in 1933. Known as the 'Wizard of Egba' and the most celebrated Apala artist after Haruna Ishola, his philosophical and sometimes controversial lyrics made him enormously popular across Yorubaland. His tragic death in a fight in 1980 cut short one of the most distinctive careers in Nigerian traditional music.
