Mode 9 (born Damola Afolabi) is a veteran Nigerian rapper widely regarded as one of the greatest lyricists in Nigerian hip-hop history. He began his career in the late 1990s and gained recognition with the classic 2006 song 'Cry' featuring Eldee and Sauce Kid. His dense, intelligent lyricism drew comparisons to Jay-Z and has made him a respected elder statesman of Nigerian rap.
