Biography
Orlando Julius (born Orlando Julius Aremu Ekemode) was a Nigerian Afrobeat and Afro-soul pioneer born in Ikorodu in 1943. He is considered one of the true originators of Afrobeat, with his 1966 album 'Super Afro Soul' predating Fela Kuti's use of the term. His work blended American soul and jazz with Yoruba traditional music and had a profound influence on the entire Afrobeat movement. He passed away in 2022.
